2011 NFL Team Building Blocks and Future of Franchise- AFC East

Each team has players that will become the focal point of their unit in the near future, but if there was one player that could remain on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, who would that be? Here are the rankings for the NFL Team Building Block Rankings, which is based on production, age, health and expected improvement in the future.

New England Patriots
14-2, 1st Place AFC East, L in AFC Divisional

Offense
Tom Brady, QB
Brady is 33 years old, but he just came off the second best year of his hall of fame career. He threw 36 touchdowns to only 4 interceptions. So how can you say Brady is slowing down? He's not! The only question I have is his motivation because he is married to a god damn super model who is holding back the Patriots. That being said, if Brady stays healthy he should be productive for the next three seasons and I certainly would not rule out the possibility of another MVP season.
Others: Ben Jarvus Green-Ellis, Rob Gronkowski
Defense
Vince Wilfork, DT
This was a tough call because the Patriots have a few young defensive studs. Wilfork however, clogs everything up in the middle and is an enormous presence on the opposing offense. The tone of the defense starts with Wilfork because he sets the tone for who will be dominating the line of scrimmage. Few defensive players have as much of an impact as Wilfork does up front, which is why even though he is coming up on 30 years old, for the next few years he will still play at a high level.
Others: Jerod Mayo, Devin McCourty
Future of Franchise: The Patriots did not turn the ball over and they did not give up many points this past season which resulted in an absolutely dominant regular season. Besides the fact that their playoff exit was agonizing because of how good this team was, the Patriots have a solid future in front of them as long as Tom Brady is under center. He has many young weapons offensively with two stud tight ends (Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez) and one of the games best possession receivers in Wes Welker. Their defense is young and up in coming, so they should continue to get better and better as well. I expect the Patriots to, as always, contend for the Super Bowl in the waning years of Tom Brady's career.
Pre Draft Prognosis for 2011 Season (if there is one of course)
Best Case- 13-3
Worst Case- 10-6
Probable Record- 12-4
New York Jets
11-5, 2nd Place AFC East, L in AFC Championship

Offense
Mark Sanchez, QB
In a previous post, I talked about the maturity of Mark Sanchez. He does not give the ball away like he did in his rookie season which is why I believe he is capable of leading the Jets to a Super Bowl victory. He still needs to become much more of an explosive threat like a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning to make the Jets the clear Super Bowl favorite. Given Sanchez's age and is continuing improvement, he is the building block of the New York Jets offense.
Others: Nick Mangold, Santonio Holmes
Defense
Darrelle Revis, CB
Revis is a rare shut down corner. Many critics now say that he dipped last season and he isn't the clear cut best cornerback in the NFL because he didn't have an interception last season. I agree with this, but the drop off in interceptions is due to the fact that offenses throw away from Revis, which cuts down a portion of the field. Revis is still a major impact on defense, and he is only 25. Revis will be the Ed Reed of the New York Jets defense for the next decade.
Others: Antonio Cromartie, Bart Scott
Future of Franchise: The Jets have appeared in two consecutive AFC Championships in the Rex Ryan regime. This is a team with the right amount of youth, experience and swagger to win a Super Bowl within the next few years. There is no reason to believe the Jets won't continue to build off of the past couple seasons and eventually get to a Super Bowl and possibly win one.
Pre Draft Prognosis for 2011 Season
Best Case- 13-3
Worst Case- 10-6
Probable Record- 12-4

Miami Dolphins
7-9, 3rd Place AFC East, Did Not Make Playoffs

Offense
Jake Long, LT
Long is the anchor for the Dolphins running game. He has been a pro bowler even though he is in his first few years in the league and the Dolphins running game has been stellar with the help of Long. Jake Long is young and already established as one of the game's better tackles. He will be a mainstay for the Dolphins in the future.
Others: Brandon Marshall, Ronnie Brown
Defense
Cameron Wake, OLB
Wake is peaking at the right time. He had 14 sacks this past season and whenever I watched him this year, he was always making plays in the backfield. Cameron Wake is 29 years old, and he should be a Joey Porter type of player for the next few years.
Others: Vontae Davis

Future of Franchise: The Dolphins have a few nice pieces on offense and defense, but their future will be determined once they have a very good quarterback. After that is settled, the Dolphins will be one of the better teams in the AFC.
Pre Draft Prognosis
Best Case- 10-6
Worst Case- 7-9
Probable Record- 9-7

Buffalo Bills
4-12, 4th Place AFC East, Did Not Make Playoffs

Offense
Steve Johnson, WR
Johnson had a breakout season last season with the Bills, and he is only 25 years old. Johnson should be a key component for the Bills in the future, but unfortunately the image everyone has of Johnson is his dropped touchdown pass against Pittsburgh.
Others: C.J. Spiller, Eric Wood

Defense
Jarius Byrd, FS
Byrd had an outstanding rookie season with nine interceptions, but he only had one interception this past season. He may have had a sophomore slump, but Byrd was still a presence on the Bills defense. He is young and he will continue to get better.
Others: Paul Poslunsky

Future of Franchise: The Bills are in desperate need of a franchise quarterback like a lot of teams are. But the Bills have many problems in many areas, and these two building blocks aren't the kind of building blocks other teams have. The Bills have a long way to go, but one thing they do is play hard; 6 of their 12 losses came by eight or less with three of those losses coming in overtime to three playoff teams.
Pre Draft Prognosis
Best Case- 6-10
Worst Case- 3-13
Probable Record- 5-11
